Kids...
I just finished my 2nd week of my pediatric rehab rotation. So far it has been interesting. I can really see that I am not pediatric rehab material...I have a hard time figuring out what to do with the kids even though I enjoy playing with them. The latest thing that has made me laugh though was seeing a child with ADHD and Asperger's last week. He was about 10 years old, very small for his age, but intellectually precocious. While I was trying to get him to focus on muscle testing his lower limbs, he suddenly pointed both fingers to either side of his groin and said, "Hey, what are these?" I think my jaw dropped about a yard. Then I said something like, "Do you mean your testicles? On either side of your penis? They'll be really important some day if you ever want to have kids," while keeping a straight face. He then told me that was what his mother told him they were called too...I think he was just testing her, but the rest of the story was that he had been wrestling at school and was hit in the groin (so a very understandable question). She was very flustered about it too, but I didn't want to discourage his question. The situation (and my reaction) made me smile to think about it for days afterward, it was just so darn unexpected and funny.
